My Bloody Valentine - Paint A Rainbow
I know you shouldn't. I know its wrong. But to this day I still prefer the jingle jangle and sha-la-las of Sunny Sundae Smile and Strawberry Wine to "Feed Me with your kiss" or anything on "loveless". I saw them 3 times in the Summer/Autumn of 1988 by which time they'd just signed to Creation and had finally abandoned the fisher price byrdsian foreplay. Sonic Youth had probably turned their innocent heads. They really were astonishing this time.Horrible, noisy *threatening* gigs for my young (ish) ears. In this spirit I spent the few hours before one of these gigs waving off an acquaintance at the time at Liverpool Street Station. She was going back to her real boyfriend and I was so unamused that I bled from the nose onto the station platforms for a good 30 minutes because of my self righteous sobbing. I really was a silly 21 year old. I saw Lost in Translation this year and I didn't even notice that Kevin Shields had got off of his arse and penned a couple of numbers. I was too busy going home to play 'Just like Honey" and Roxy Music.
