Ok its the last refuge of the pop scoundrel. Distance yourself from the current bleak landscape (that you had a big part in dumping on us) and egged on by your wistful puppet operators who practically remember it the first time and what do you know but you've ended up with a cilladustysandie makeover. Oh blimey there's a suprise. And so it is with the lovely Emma Bunton (which she's obviously dropped as a surname). From Swing Out Sister via Gabrielle from the pop charts and Stereolab, St Etienne in the (un)popular hit parade we've all done it and we're all a bit ashamed but hey this time its turned out very fine indeed.
Flutes, terrible ba ba ba-s, strings and endless floaty ballads dreaming about being 'strong enough' for some awful boy in the 'summer'. Yep its no surprise that I love this album.. The single 'Maybe' is the best song on "I'll be there" especially the bit where she does some counter melody at the end (is that what its called ?). Although there's a couple of floaty slowies that I've been singing along to on the train too. (Sorry to everyone who gets on the 2nd to last carriage at East Croydon.)
Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Unfortunately its been a bit of a flop. And she'll probably get dropped. Oh dear.
This bloke from Tangents had the same idea and this guy writing on Tangents thinks Lulu is a better soul singer than James Carr. Go for it fine sirs.
Actually looking at the very informative emmabuntonofficial.com ('Emma Bunton’s story is as simple as it is world-famous." and great fashion tips "The idea is to have a 60’s look and feel – but not to look like you’re in fancy dress! Try and find outfits that have a 60’s inspiration with an up-to-date twist.”.) I notice that I missed her doing "puppet on a string' on saturdays terrible; 'making your mind up' eurovision/song for europe nonsense won by that rubbish James Fox. Well of course she did.
